het TheaterFestival

Het TheaterFestival strives to be a multi-voiced festival that reflects contemporary social and artistic trends both on and behind the scene. With an open mind and solidarity attitude, we aim to meet the needs and perspectives of our theatre audience every year.

Together with partners and experts, experiencers and companies, we will build an accessibility path from 2022. We do this through a careful and multi-voiced jury, staff, partner and board composition. But also through the WijkJury, a jury composed of residents from the different neighbourhoods in a city. The WijkJury consists of 10 to 12 open-minded city residents of different ages and cultural backgrounds who have had little or no previous contact with theatre. Together, they visit about 10 different performances a year in theatres in their city and choose their favourite at the end of the theatre season: The Choice of the WijkJury, part of the programme from 2024!

There are also ‘relaxed performances’ where the environment and atmosphere are adapted to put the audience at ease, and there is a quiet room in the festival centre for those in need of peace and quiet. But also the possibility to walk in and out during a performance without leaving for good. In addition, there is an open attitude to movement and sound.

Supertitles and multilingual communication ensure that the performance can be followed by everyone. You can find this information on the performance pages under the ‘accessibility’ section.

The venues and halls are wheelchair accessible via the main entrance and/or the side entrance, and videos with clear directions are available (coming soon!). Please note that the toilets in Monty are only accessible via 10 steps. Specific icons and clear signage show the way to the various facilities. For people who would like guidance, Theatre Festival is happy to offer this service. Please contact us at info@theaterfestival.be.

All information on accessibility, content & technical warnings, descriptions of the venues and surroundings can be found in our accessibility sheets (Coming soon!) a pdf document per performance which can be downloaded from each programme page.

The festival also has an eye for people in poverty and therefore offers FestivAll. By making a solidarity donation, you contribute to a free ticket for people of limited means. Do you have limited resources yourself but would like to go to one of our performances? Email info@theaterfestival.be and we will be happy to see what is possible together.

Do you have an EDC card? Then your companion can come along to the performance for free.

Het TheaterFestival strives to create an inclusive and accessible space where everyone is welcome and can enjoy the arts.
